How to Write a Resume to Apply For an Internship

Writing a resume for an internship is similar to that of any other job except that typically interns are paid little if not at all for their dedication. How best to tailor this document to show your capabilities and achievements relevant to this job? Employers are willing to invest time and energy into individuals that they deem worthy of their time. By writing a paper that can easily detail your accomplishments, you are half way to the goal. However, learning how to properly focus the resume is a skill that takes practice even for the learned worker. Let's imagine that your resume is the only key to getting the job. Thus you want to put your best foot forward as part of your sales pitch.

The resume is your best opportunity to sell yourself, since nobody knows you quite as well as you do. So make the paper one gigantic sales ad featuring yours truly! Consider your job related skills and write that into a one page summary that will replace the job objective part of your resume. In this way, you immediately capture the attention of the read who will undoubtedly read the balance of the page with anticipation. This is the type of mood that you want to capture here. Don't leave the reader asking questions such as "Who is this person and what do they want?". Lead with your best feature and write the rest of the resume as a supplement to that. You now have written a tremendous sales page about your yourself, one that is sure to get you that coveted internship. Good luck!

Until next time,

Brian
